Wales

Bryn Tyrch Farm, Capel Curig, LL24 0EL, Tel: 01690 720414

Costs £6 per person per night. Situated in the village of Capel Curig next to the Bryn Tyrch Hotel . The camping fields slope a bit and the bunkhouses and facilities are pretty basic however it's cheap, the farmer who runs it is a real character and the location is hard to fault. Good access to central Snowdonia, both Pen-y-pass and the Ogwen valley are very easy to get to. Distance from Warwick 146 miles. Map. WCC rating 3/5.

Bryn Tirion Farm, Dolwyddelan, nr Betws-y-Coed, LL25 0JD, Tel: 01690 750366

Bunkhouse is £10 per person per night. Quiet site about half a mile from the village of Dolwyddelan. The camping field slopes but the facilities are good. The first time we stayed, the bunkhouse had no beds, but they have resolved that issue now. Slight midge problem but you are allowed fires. The Gwydyr pub in Dolwyddelan does good, cheap food. Tucked out of the way but good access to the Moelwyns. Distance from Warwick 138 miles. Map. WCC rating 3/5.

Cwellyn Arms, Rhyd Ddu, Gwynedd, LL54 6TL, Tel: 01766 890321

A little expensive at between £10 and £15 per person per night. Twenty beds, good facilities but cramped when full. The bunkhouse belongs to the pub which is a 15 min slightly uphill walk away. Pub does unusual real ales and good food. We held the club dinner here in 2004. A little out of the way except for the south side of Snowdon. Distance from Warwick 152 miles. Map. WCC rating 3/5.

Eric Jones' Cafe, Bwlch-y-Moch, Tremadog, Gwynedd, LL49 9SN, Tel: 01766 512199

Costs £5 to £7 per person per night. Basic facilities but compensated for by the superb position under the crag, the cafe next door and The Golden Fleece in Tremadog. Distance from Warwick 150 miles. Map. WCC rating 4/5.

The White Hart Inn, Talybont-on-Usk, Brecon, LD3 7JD, Tel: 01874 676227/516

£10 per person per night. Twenty beds, good facilities, plenty of space ... and there's a pub downstairs! Which serves real ale, good food ... Owen will even cook you breakfast and serve it in the bunkhouse. Difficult to fault. Just a pity there's no decent climbing nearby! Distance from Warwick 105 miles. Map. WCC rating 5/5.
