This is by no means an exhaustive list of every campsite in the UK. Just the ones we use.

About £2.50 to £3 per person per night. Great location and reasonable facilities although roaming sheep can keep you awake at night. If you want to climb at Goredale you could rack up at the tent. Very handy for limestone and not too bad for grit. Malham has two good pubs, The Lister Arms Hotel and The Buck Inn and The Old Barn Cafe. Distance from Warwick 170 miles. Map. WCC rating 3/5.

The campsite is set in terraced woodland, close to River Nidd, adjacent to the Nidderdale Way. A bit expensive at £8 per person per night but the facilities are good. No shop on site but Summerbridge is close by with all amenities including The Flying Dutchman pub (cheap food and beer). Brimham Rocks is a five minute drive away and Almscliff is within easy striking difference. Distance from Warwick is 154 miles. WCC rating 3/5.

About £3.50 per person per night. Nice flat site with reasonable facilities but can be a little noisy. There is a good caff on site and the Traveller's Rest pub a two minute walk away. Ideally located for Bamford and Stanage Edges. Distance from Warwick 100 miles. Map. WCC rating 3/5.
Cherry Orchard Farm Camp Site, Newland, Coleford, GL16 8NP, Tel: 01594 832212
The campsite has the basics, 2 toilets, a shower and 5 water taps and costs about £4 a night. If you don't expect too much, it's just fine! The great redeeming feature is that it's only a short walk to The Ostrich Inn in Newland. No crags within walking distance but a short drive to either Symonds Yat or the lower Wye Valley crags. Great Langdale Campsite, Great Langdale, Near Ambleside, Cumbria, LA2. Tel 015394 37668
£4.50 per person per night. Good location and facilities although the aroma from the toilet block can be unpleasant. You can walk to all the local crags including: White Ghyll, Raven and Gimmer Crags. Even closer to the Old and New Dungeon Ghyll hotels and the Sticklebarn tavern. Distance from Warwick 189 miles. £2.50 per person per night and will be demanded for at 7.30am every morning. Good location but very basic, a toilet and outside tap. Convenient for the Riverside bar of the Scafell Hotel and The Langstrath Hotel. Distance from Warwick 213 miles. Map. WCC rating 2/5.
Hollins Farm Camp Site, Boot, Holmrook, Cumbria, CA19 1TH, Tel: 01946 726220.
The campsite is located in the hamlet of Boot in Eskdale and has superb views and tranquil setting. The campsite has all the usual facilities including toilets and showers and costs £7 a night. There are three pubs within walking distance including The Brook House Inn and The Woolpack Inn, both of which serve good food and real ales. Distance from Warwick 203 miles. Map. WCC rating 3/5.

Climber friendly site in a good location, flat, sheltered and with excellent facilities; shop and on-site bar; about £7 per person per night. The Queen's Head a five minute walk down the road has excellent ales and food. Ideally situated for Bosigran, Land's End, Sennen and Chair Ladder. Distance from Warwick is 270 miles. Map. Costs about £4 per person per night. Not ideally located for climbing but central for everything, the Dewerstone, Sheeps Tor, High Man and Low Man can all be reached within 25 minutes and south coast limestone within an hour. Facilities and food are good and The Plume serves the excellent and dangerous Jail Ale. Distance from Warwick 184 miles. Map. WCC rating 4/5.

Campsite is about £6 per person per night. Ideally located for climbing at Hedbury and Dancing Ledges and within range of Swanage and Portland. Three pubs within walking distance including the excellent Square & Compass in Worth Matravers. Distance from Warwick 162 miles. Map. WCC rating 3/5.
Dolgam, Capel Curig, Betws-y-Coed, LL24 0DS. Tel: 01690 720228
£3 per person per night. Situated between Betws-y-Coed and Capel Curig. Big flat site with reasonably good facilities but can get very busy. You will need to book on bank holiday weekends. Next to the A5 so bring earplugs. A two-thirds of a mile walk to the Tyn-y-Coed Hotel. Distance from Warwick 145 miles. Map. WCC rating 2/5.
Bryn Tyrch Farm, Capel Curig, LL24 0EL, Tel: 01690 720414
Campsite is £4 per person per night. Situated in the village of Capel Curig next to the Bryn Tyrch Hotel . The camping fields slope a bit and the bunkhouses and facilities are pretty basic however it's cheap, the farmer who runs it is a real character and the location is hard to fault. Good access to central Snowdonia, both Pen-y-pass and the Ogwen valley are very easy to get to. Distance from Warwick 146 miles. Map. WCC rating 3/5.

Campsite is £3 per person per night. Quiet site about half a mile from the village of Dolwyddelan. The camping field slopes but the facilities are good. The first time we stayed, the bunkhouse had no beds, but they have resolved that issue now. Slight midge problem but you are allowed fires. The Gwydyr pub in Dolwyddelan does good, cheap food. Tucked out of the way but good access to the Moelwyns. Distance from Warwick 138 miles. Map. WCC rating 3/5.

Costs £4 a night. Very basic facilities for campers but compensated for by the superb position under the crag, the cafe next door and The Golden Fleece in Tremadog. Distance from Warwick 150 miles. Map. WCC rating 4/5.

Cost is £7.50 per person per night, but this includes free showers. Nice level and sheltered site set in beautiful scenery. It's next to a river, so bring plently of deet! However you are allowed fires on the river bank, so bring kindling/fire wood as well. There are no pubs within easy walking distance. Distance from Warwick 123 miles. Map. WCC rating 3/5.
