Warwick Climbing Club is a BMC affiliated climbing club with approximately 80 members. We encourage lead climbing, mountaineering, scrambling, hill walking, skiing and, to a lesser extent, mountain biking. We aim to offer a friendly atmosphere where local climbers can meet: to find climbing partners, organise transport, pass on knowledge, improve skills, tell tall stories of derring do and generally engage in other activities that result when you get a group of climbers in one place. The club organises outdoor trips about three times a month during the summer months and less frequently during winter.

We meet twice a week on Monday and Wednesday evenings, between 7 pm and 9:30 pm, at the climbing wall at St Nicholas Park Leisure Centre, Warwick. See The Wall section for more details on this. If you have never climbed before or are still a beginner, please call the club secretary before you come down the wall for the first time. We also suggest that Monday nights are better for beginners since they are quieter. We meet once a week socially on Wednesdays at 9:30 pm in the Roebuck Inn, Smith Street, Warwick.

A Brief History

In the beginning there was Leamington Mountaineering Club which was certainly in existence in the early 1980's and met in the old Haunch of Venison in the Parade. The club currently have three or four members who belonged to the Leamington club, however, age and alcohol have dulled their memories so if anyone has more details it would be greatly appreciated.

In the mid 1980's Leamington Mountaineering Club gained an offshoot ,the Newbold Comyn Arms Outdoor Pursuit Club. This undertook regular trips normally culminating in a New Years vist to Brotherswater in the Lake District.

Warwick Climbing Club was formed in 1992/3 from the bones of Leamington Mountaineering Club by Alan Jeffs and Barry Woodbridge. Barry and Pauline Woodbridge served as secretary and treasurer respectively, until 2000. It was during this period that the wall at St Nicholas Park was built, funded by the club, Warwick's Henry VIII Charity and Warwick District Council.

If you want to contact us, please feel free to call, email or visit us on Facebook. However, if you want to climb, the best way is to come and say hello at the climbing wall at St Nicks in Warwick on a Monday or Wednesday evening.
