The Club

Peak District, 9th & 10th August 2008

Organiser

Rich Merrell. Email: social@warwickclimbingclub.co.uk

The club have booked places at the campsite. However, even though this is designated as a weekend trip, being the peak district, you can of course just come along for the day.

The Campsite

Hardhurst Farm Camp Site, Hardhurst Farm, Hope Valley, Derbyshire, S33 6RB, Tel: Tel: 01433 620001

The campsite is fairly basic but has free hot water and showers, an on-site cafe and is only a 100 metres from the Travellers Rest pub. What more do you want for a single night! Cost is £3.00 per person per night.

Directions to the Campsite

Leave M1 at Junction 29 and head into Chesterfield. Take A619 out of Chesterfield (Follow signs to Chatsworth House). Continue on A619 to Baslow where you take 2nd exit on roundabout on to A623 and follow it to Calver. At the traffic lights in Calver (By Outside Store) turn right onto the B6001 and follow it to Hathersage (Left turn required in Grindleford). In Hathersage turn left on to A6187 and head towards Hope. Turn right just after the Travellers Rest (Just after the Bradwall turning on the left). Campsite is before you cross the railway line. Distance from Warwick is 105 miles. See Map.

Climbing

You have a choice of rock and style. Grit to one side and limestone to the other. One is subtle and demands technique, the other is polished and requires big muscles ....Take your pick.

For grit fans, Hope is well placed for Bamford, Stanage, Burbage, and Froggatt and Chris was over heard to say that he would like to visit Higgar Tor. Limestone devotees can head for Horseshoe and Stoney Middleton.

Mountain Biking

There is plenty of mountain biking in the Hope/Edale area. DaveB can offer more information or visit Rockfax's Dark Peak Mountain Biking.
